We are a group of volunteers from the Salem, Il community and surrounding areas who have a shared interest in gardening or wish to learn more about gardening. We work on various projects but also enjoy the socialization that takes place with a great group of people. We are proud of our community and want others to feel the same way!
From March of 2006 to present, “The Daffy-Dill” Garden Club of Salem has focused on its founding mission of promoting civic pride throughout the Greater Salem Area and partnering with the youth and adults of the community to achieve our beautification and educational goals. The William Jennings Bryan Statue Garden has continued to evolve and grow through many years of change receiving the All America Selection (AAS) award in 2009. Later we were awarded the Illinois Governor’s Hometown designation for urban beautification. Thanks to a wonderful coalition of many sectors of the community, the beautiful Salem Tribute Garden was established in 2013 and a new pergola with seating and other hardscape features added in 2014 through 2015 which enhances the beauty and usefulness of this garden setting.
We also plant and maintain the flowering planters along the sidewalks in downtown Salem which complements the goals of beautification in our community.
We believe we have been and continue to strive to work towards achieving our goals to provide an environment for learning and meeting others with a shared interest. The camaraderie amongst the volunteers is enjoyed and we always welcome new members and guests. Activities beyond meetings have included social events in local gardens, bus trips, nursery and garden store visits as well as other social events. The club provides a great way to get to know others and an opportunity to participate.
If you have any interest, with little gardening expertise, our Club is the place for you to meet others, learn and have fun!
